Hive installation (half done)

Got hive installed recently. All was working great. The engineer installed the WiFi receiver, new panels and the new thermostats.

He left the old thermostats in the wall and told us that they had to be left up at the max for them to work. He then mentioned that when we want to take out the old thermostats, remove them and put a plate over the old panel.

So I did this today. I disconnected the two old thermostats disconnecting two electrical cables (no power going through) in each device. On doing this the hive is working or it thinks it is working but the boiler is not kicking in so heating not working.

I reconnected the old thermostats again and bingo, boiler back on. So it seems the two cables are needed but I don’t know what for as the old thermostats should be redundant.

I’d like to remove them and put the hive device in its place. What should I do with the cables?

When you disconnect the cables from old stat connect them together and it should work as the old stats are closed and calling for heat when they are turned up to max so you need the wires connected together to simulate this

Thanks. I’ll try that with a connector block. Didn’t have one handy today so didn’t even think of it.

    Cheers.

Update. That did the trick. Working fine now. Thanks for the tip.
