What is wrong with window? Maybe we can help you fix it yourself.
    What car is it?

Castlebar an hour away have several mechanics, is that an option?

Ok so it's not a mechanic you need but a glass place.

Try AAA windscreens www.expresswindscreens.ie in Castlebar
They may call out to you

    +1 on express windscreens.
Came out to me last August and the job was done pretty quickly. Cleaned up most of the glass for me too
Can't say any prices as it was all organized by the company I worked for but I was impressed with the service.

Smashed window needs a glass company.
    Have you insurance again this?
If so, call them and they will organise everything free.
I'd suggest some plastic to keep the rain out in the mean time.

That's one of the reasons why I love Ireland.
Person asks on nationwide public forum about a mechanic probably in one of the most rural places in the country, and gets a reply straight away with mechanics full name included :) Brilliant.

Now, as we now know it's glass gone, OP should first check if windscreen cover is included in their insurance policy. If yes - ring them and they will sort it out. If not - as adviced ring Express Windscreens in Castlebar - they will surely sort it out.

Have you thought about trying the website Tradesmen.ie?

I've used it a few times for different jobs that I needed doing and while I know it's a site that's bound to suit busier places like Dublin, it's still worth a try I'd say.

Here's their main page for setting up a job request:

You could try and source a whole backdoor from a breakers or a car dismantlers. If you you are unable to do this yourself have a chat with whatever garage you go to and they might be able to source one for you.

The colour of it shouldn't matter if you're only keeping the car until September.

Findapart.ie says a place called Conway Car Dismantlers in Clare have a silver 2002 model so I emailed them and asked if they still have it and if so would the rear window from it fit a 2000 model..... if they reply I'll post back.

Please God so; thank you. Will try to get someone who is going over today to cover the window. Am too ill to do that myself.

Cannot be the first time this has happened so they will know what to do

    Small update.

Called my neighbour the ferryman and he was already thinking re taping it up. There is an old shower curtain in the car I was using as a rain cape so that will serve. also he said re this local man who is well liked here and he will call him for me..It may save costs as there are clearly two parts to this; getting the part and fitting it.

Oh he assured me that the wind direction last night meant that the car will not have been flooded.

Kindness heals. We were talking about how it happened and I said I had read that even a bird or a small stone could explode that kind of glass.

    Keeping all options open..

Received a few emails re the glass and so it seems that shouldn't be too much of an issue if you can find someone who would fit it for you.

Quotes I received so far range from between €75 to €95 delivered (PM me if you want any of the dismantlers contact details).

Sure wait and see and sure maybe this local guy might even be able to source the window at a decent price himself too.

Great price and yes, will wait to see now if the local man can help. Great relief and thank you. When I see the ferry man will let him know all this.. Feel better already!
