I am getting my bathroom remodelled. I have a quote from a retail bathroom supplier for bath toilet tiles etc. The quote shows ex VAT and VAT inclusive prices. VAT at 23%. Ex VAT is around 4k VAT in is about 5k.
My plumber has included the VAT inclusive price of 5k in his quote and also listed additional items and services totalling 6k. Then he has calculated VAT at 13.5% on the full amount of 11k (including the price from our supplier that already includes VAT at 23%).

    Is this correct?

Absolutely incorrect. The 13.5% should apply to the plumber's extra €6,000 only. You'll already have paid the VAT at 23% on the first lot of materials, so you shouldn't have to pay 13.5% on their cost again just because you're getting somebody else to install them for you.

Might be a genuine mistake on the plumber's part rather than an attempt to 'do' you. I'd expect that they'd see and accept that mistake if you point it out to them.

I thought that his bill should include the ex-VAT rate for our product and the total for all materials and services chared at 13.5% VAT. He'd be paying 23.5% VAT on our products from the retailer but the total VAT he'd charge us would be greater than the VAT to the retailer and the difference is what he'd pay to the tax man...?
