VRT question

    Hi
Perhaps some one on here can advise me. I'm considering importing a used VW Transporter Van from the UK it's the Kombi model which means it has a row of seats behind the drivers & front passengers seats (Crew cab) with 2 extra glass panels. Van will be CVRT'd +taxed and insured commercially
Will I have to pay VRT similar to a saloon car due to the extra seating or is it a fixed fee similar to a standard van ?
I'm unable to get a definite reply from any of the government agencies, after numerous e mails, phone calls etc. one told me that I'd have to get the van NCT'd (not CVRT) immediately after import ??
Maybe I should steer clear of the Kombi a buy a standard van to avoid the hassle ?
I'd greatly appreciate hearing from someone on here who went through the process
    Thanks M.

If you can find out the vehicle classification from the UK VLC, that should give you the answer.

It should be an N1 commercial and would therefore be subject to 13.3% VRT of whatever Market Value Revenue come up with.

It may be an M1 passenger vehicle though, which would be subject to whatever VRT % the Co2 emissions put it in to - probably over 30% anyway.

Irish Kombi's are subject to 13.3% VRT when new, so you'd expect UK ones to be the same, but double check as there would be a big difference between N1 & M1 VRT on one of them.

    Hi R.O.R
    Thanks for the quick reply
I don't really need a Kombi, it's just that I was looking around for a Transporter Van in UK and a cousin in London happens to be selling his Kombi which is in immaculate condition and priced within my budget.
If I was to import a standard Transporter van (with just the front seats) short wheel base is the VRT a standard fixed charge (€50.00 ??) or a % of the market value ?
    Thanks
    M.

Standard 2 or 3 seat vans (no seats behind the driver) are a flat rate of €200 for panel vans.

What year/ mileage is the van> the VRT might not be that significant

Very nice van. My guess is that revenue would value that at 20k here so VRT would be 13.5% of that i.e 2700 euro

    Hi all,

Im in a similar black hole for information. I have a T2 bay 1993, very clean rust free all ready to go in Brazil. There are no seats/seatbelts in the back and 2 seats upfront. I have tried to get some info on what VRT Im looking at on arrival but no "officials" can seem to give me an answer. I would assume since it has no seats/seatbelts in the back it would be the flat €200 but I don't know.

Has anyone else had similar experience and could maybe shed some advice?

When you say panel vans? do you mean no windows in the back?

Yes - I remember asking Opel if it was possible to order Vivaro Vans with windows in the side, but no seats in the back. Told it wasn't possible as the side windows affected the VRT classification of the vans, even though they still would have just been the 3 seats.

I'm currently in the process of bringing in a kombi from Brazil. It's a split bay hybrid. I know some find them a little ugly but I love them. I'm trying to guestimate the vrt it got no seats in the back. It's got seat belts back there though. It's going to arrive into Dublin in a container. Will I be able to take it out of the port before I register it?

I should mention.. the reason I ask is I was under the assumption I would have to pay the vrt before they release it which is fine but someone told me that no in fact they will let me take it away and register it later
