so i recently started shaving my head and ive been getting spots all over my head when i do it. blade zero is what im doing.

im washing the shaver constantly to keep it clean so im not sure if its that or maybe its the skin getting used to shaving.

but any tips in general on the maintenance of the blades/shaver and just shaving the head in general would be great.

Are you using a wet blade I gather? Best way to do it. Change your blade every two or three shaves. Make sure you use a good gel and use moisturising cream afterwards.

It might also be the way you are shaving. It might be best to shave with the grain first, then soap up again and shave against the grain. A two or three way pass will get the hair off but also help reduce the redness.

Also, if you can wait a few days between shaves this can help bring the irritation down. If you are shaving daily on the red area then it'll continue.

I use an electric shaver and there's no spots or bumps after using it.

What kind of electric shaver is it exactly?

Been shaving mine for years now. Best way I find is use the electric to shave it down as much as possible. It should end up being very small stubble. Then into the shower with a razor and whatever cream gel or soap you use. Go with the grain a couple of times resoaping each time. Then go against the grain. Always have loads of soap on your head to stop irritation. You also need to be patient. As I said I've been doing it for years and it takes me about an hour from the electric to finishing shaving. Of course that includes taking stuff out and cleaning up after. Lot of effort but no soar head

Try using a proper electric shaver rather than a hair trimmer. I've had feck all hair for years from 8 to 0 and now shaved. A hair trimmer is too rough for fully bald. I tried a few different shavers, Remmington and Philips. I dropped the Remmington and broke the hair catcher, a replacement is €40. Was walking through Lidl and they had a shaver for €20 so bought it as a backup and it gave me the best shave, dropped this so keeping my eye out for their return.

The Skull Shaver is the way to go imho.

I think your clippers isnt sharp enough. Whats possibly happening is that you are cutting the hairs, but because the clippers isnt sharp enough, the top of the hair isnt cut clean (and hence not sharp)...so when the follicles drop back into your skin after the cut, they aren't sharp enough to cut back through the skin as they grow out.

Its kinda like when you shave your face and get ingrown hair.

I guess a wet blade might work better if you are cutting it really tight.

Go wet blade. You'll never look back. And sure after a day it'll look like a blade zero anyway, but it's way easier to do and you can do it standing in the shower etc. Less mess too.

These guys are a great job.

Its what a barber used to get do my hair one time.

I used to wet shave, but got the occasional nick which spouted blood for quite a while.

With the foil shaver you are not at risk of that. Plus its quicker, 5 mins and job done, and no need to be messing about with gel etc. I find them as close as a wet shave, if not closer on some of the more stubborn spots.

I use Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5. Used to use Mac3, but it's useless compared to the Hydro5. Wet your head by running your wet hands over it, then use the gel, and cover your head with the gel foam stuff. Then put the tap on full hot. You want it as hot as possible, and then rinse the blade, and shave your head. From ear to ear, shave from the front of your head, back, and shave up from your neck to the top of your head.

I do it every couple of days.
