    Hi all,
I'm going to a wedding in Italy in August this year. looking to make a week long break out of it.
I'm assuming Rome will be mental busy and hot so I'm not too keen to go there.
Has anyone been to Cinque Terre? Looks really nice
Any other recommendations not too far from Rome?

We went to Rome in August, it wasn’t near as busy as I expected. I think a lot of locals go on holidays in August so it balances out with the extra tourists. It was hot, but not uncomfortably so. I would imagine Cinque Terra would be bonkers busy. I’ve never been, but have heard that the towns struggle to cope with the amount of visitors and day trippers. What about somewhere in Tuscany? There are some lovely villages and towns as well as larger cities if that’s what you prefer. Shouldn’t be too difficult to find somewhere a bit quieter. It’s a food and wine lovers paradise! We stayed in Montepulciano and visited Siena and Florence. The only place I wouldn’t recommend is Florence. Don’t get me wrong, it’s stunning, but I have never been anywhere that felt so crowded and busy. I would avoid it during the summer months.

Much of Italy is nice, just some of the well known places are unpleasantly crowded.
South of Tuscany is Umbria, not too far from Rome and well worth a look.

Cinque Terre is mental busy. Was there a few years ago in August and it wasn't pleasant...huge queues from traffic to restaurants.
Personally I'd head towards Liguria (alassio or albenga) or Bologna (Ferrara is a beautiful world heritage walled city).
Trains are excellent and a good value so definitely get out there and see this great country.
    Agriturismo for decent priced accommodation.
