college part level 7 to a part level 8

    hi, 
    just wondering, i have a part level 7 (special purpose award certificate) in industrial automation. (2 year part-time course with 30 credits) my question is do i have to do other modules to complete the full level 7 before i can apply for a level 8? i'm only looking to do the same as i did in a course that states part level 8 on it. 
    just wondering if anybody knows for sure as asking around and colleges no one seems to know.
