Temperature light flashing - 2008 VW Golf 1.4 petrol

I'm trying to solve a funny issue on the brothers car.

Soon after starting the car it will give the 4 beeps in the dash and the temperature light starts flashing. The dash gauge seems to be working correctly but when I check on VCDS the block is reading 70 while the gauge displays around 90. There are also no faults stored when this happens.

I've heard that the temperature senders give trouble on these, would that be the first port of call? I have checked the connections already on the 2 sensors.

    Cheers

The usual culprit with those symptoms is the level sensor in the coolant reservoir. You can try cleaning the sensor probes. That sometimes sorts them. Otherwise you will need to replace the reservoir (very cheap from the dealer)

To clean the sensor remove the cap and look down into the reservoir, you will see the 2 metal probes submerged in the coolant. Get an old toothbrush or similar and give them a clean.
