Venues with low/no minimum room requirement

Could anyone recommend a venue with no, or at least, a low number of rooms required to be taken on the night of the wedding?

We're looking at venues in or near Dublin - so places like the Station House, Rathsallagh, etc. Something a little different to the standard hotel ballroom.

While we're hoping to invite about 150 people, we don't expect that many to take a room on the night of the wedding - especially at the cost most venues charge.

We have considered subsiding some of the room cost, but before we agree to that, I thought I'd ask to see if there's somewhere suitable out there that I haven't yet considered.

Most of the places that we looked at had no minimum room requirements. The exceptions to those tended to be the country house style ones (like rathsallagh)

Think that's where we're going wrong then :pac:

We'd prefer country house style but looks like we'll have to compromise on something.

Have you considered venues which aren't hotels? You wouldn't need to take any rooms them! We got married in Howth Yacht club. No minimum numbers. Other golf clubs etc do weddings.

We haven't yet, but that might be the next step.

That said, running off to Gretna Green is starting to look tempting.

Try and look at venues that have other activities like golf, take castleknock or knightsbrook as an example, they can fill their rooms other ways.

You may not have exclusivity on the day but as you said you may have to compromise.

If you want to minimise on people having the expense of staying over, have the wedding near where most people are located or within a taxi ride/lay on a bus

Station House sounds like it ticks all your boxes.

We both loved the Station House, but worry that the main room is quite small. Especially if the weather is bad and the ceremony has to take place there as well. That said, it's more suitable than most of the other places we've seen. We might just need to limit numbers a bit.

It just comes down to what we want to compromise on, I guess. Exclusivity would be nice, but not at the cost of something else.

Ours was at the station house and we loved it. However we had 110 in total and I wouldn't have wanted many more to be honest.

We invited 150 to ours and had about 100 for the full day. Most of the declines were plus ones.
TBH, we had our heart set on exclusivity but it didn't really make much difference in the end tbh. Few random people in the bar after the ceremony but most of them were ushered into the restaurant. It absolutely hammered rain and they were amazing dealing with it, we were meant to have an outdoor ceremony. Food is great too and people still tell us how lovely the meal was 4 years later.
