Volkswagen Bora 2000, brakes soft

    Hi,

Just looking for a bit on input. My brakes have gone soft at times and are slow to depress down and stop the car. This happened about a 6 weeks ago but stopped and was working fine again until yesterday and has started again.

It only seems to happen while driving slowly, like reversing out the drive, or parking up. Maybe something to do with having my foot on the clutch?

Any advice on what it might be, and if it would be expensive to repair?

    TIA

It sounds like you either need to change pads, or maybe there is air in the system
It could be the master cylinder.

Tbh, you should probably see a mechanic asap if the brakes don't work 100%

Had something similar with my Passat.
First they replaced the fluid, which worked for a while.
    The brakes went soft again.
Then they pressure-tested the system to check for leaks and replaced the fluid again.
Brakes worked for a while but went soft again.
Finally, they changed the master cylinder.
    That worked.
It cost a bit to sort it but it was worth it for the peace of mind.
Scary driving with soft brakes - not recommended at all.
