171 MK3 TT 2l petrol - oil change notification

I've an oil change notification on my car - 13 days and counting down. It's coming up to the car's first year and has just under 18k Kms on the clock.

I assumed this was an engine oil check. But when I was booking in online it was giving me a gear oil change option at €270. Does this sound plausible?

Also, I also got a free option to update the software, hmm - is my car going to be lobotomised ?

    Is it S tronic ?

The S tronic (DSG) gearbox might be due an oil change.

I doubt its the STronic oil change at 18k, the recommended is 60k
Sounds like its the Engine oil change, is this your first service?

Yes first service, car says oil change. Online booking system only mentions Stronic gear oil change.

Yeah, you don't need that at your first service.

It'll be engine oil change, plus wash, clean and diagnostic. If that gets me to 12 months time I'll be glad.

I would advise against letting them wash it. It will look 'clean' after but 99% of the time a wash from a dealer will scratch the clear coat to pieces.

You might not mind though as that kind of thing doesn't bother everyone and a lot of people wouldn't even notice the scratches!

Oh yeah, I'd say an oil change is all you'll need to keep you going. To be clear though, the €270 price you mentioned was for the gearbox oil change and the price of the oil service is less than that?

The dealer washes get a bad auld rep but 99.9% of dealers clientele are not detailing enthusiasts and do not wash their car from one end the year to the next so the service wash is the best bit for them. They aren't a swirl safe wash but they are no more harmful than any other wash method that non detailing enthusiasts use whether it be an attended car wash etc.

The dealer isn't going to have the valetor spending an hour to wash a service car in the correct method. Most people are just happy the car is washed

Completely agree. Just highlighting it in case this is something the OP might want to avoid.

I forgot to mention this to a dealer when I dropped my car in for major work once. The poor car was covered in swirl marks

Same thing last time I had a bit of work done. When I was collecting it the guy was telling me they gave it a wash like they did me a favour. Took me a week to correct the paint after!

At the same time I understand they are doing it to a standard most are happy with.

Good to know - will ask not to be washed cheers. :)
