    I'm thinking a 520d estate.....or something similar. (08/09)
    Opinions please
Have about 10k to throw at it
Looks are important, reliability and running costs.

If it's reliability you are after then avoid 520d they are notoriously dodgy at this stage. Your budget would get a lovely octavia vrs estate

    Google 520d timing chain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,481 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

If going to the UK is an option then a Honda Accord Touring or Skoda Superb Combi are worth looking at.

    Thanks guys
I was aware of the timing chain issue, didn't think it was quite so widespread.
So hard to find a nice estate in Ireland that hasn't been to the moon and back for 10k
I don't really have time to go to the UK unfortunately

Slightly disappointing performance wise, very sensitive to being serviced on time, and not especially large as far as load area goes.

What are you going to be using the estate for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭rabbitinlights

You'd get a lovely BMW 530d MSport landed in from the UK for that.

Higher tax & VRT but you'll never regret it.

I just find an estate more versatile for bikes and other bits
I May have to look at some hatches.
I have a v70 but while it's great for carrying anything I don't really enjoy driving it

    Seat Exeo:

The Exeo is basically a 2001 to 2008 Audi A4 but with more modern VAG CR diesel engines.

Mileage in that is perfectly acceptable isn't it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,481 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

If anything it seems a bit low imo, think it's a UK import too so make sure to do background checks.

3.0 525d might suit. Very good m57 six cylinder diesel engine no timing chain issues. Be a touch cheaper than a 530d, might be easier get a well minded one too

Skoda Roomster. You can fit two bikes in it standing up. Great car.

I've a 2010 diesel with less mileage than that, around 110k or so. Was originally meant to be the main workhorse but things changed and it's just the runabout. Luckily no DPF in it but it does get a long run once a week anyway.

If that exeo checks out thats a decent price tried and tested technology as well took the badge off it. You would never notice the difference

Drivers door is miles out on that Alfa

That looks very nice, low mileage and looks in great condition. Price is a little rich but might have a little wiggle room.

    Obviously check the chain status.

For me, Alfa and Volvo make the nicest looking estates.

Very poorly painted drivers door on that car, would stand out even more at night under yellow street lighting.

What 2010 diesel has no dpf ?

What 2010 diesel has no dpf ?

Some of the Renault 1.5 DCi engines anyway, and as they've common engines, maybe some Nissan's that use that particular engine?

A toyota corolla pre facelift hasn't got any.

Looking at an estate myself - circa 2010-2013. Terrified of the 5 series (timing chain) and the Insignias seem to have issues too.

Strongly considering a Peugeot 508. They seem to be well regarded around these parts. 2 litre if we can find one.

Everything seems to have high mileage. Can’t get over the mileage on the Hyundai i40s - people are really clocking up the mileage on them.

Octavia could be an option but don’t really like the shape of those years’ models. I love the newer models but don’t think budget will stretch.

After that Passat is looking like a likely option.

Some great value in the UK for above estates.
