New (B7) Passat petrol 1.4 TSI only available in 125hp?

Just browsing the VW Configurator and trying to configure a possible new Passat petrol DSG model.

I notice the 1.4 TSI is only offered in the lower powered version, the 1.4 TSI 92 kW (125 HP) 7 speed DSG (auto)

Why would VW not offer the more powerful 150 HP engine?

I'd have thought the 150 HP version would be much more appropriate for a car as heavy as the Passat.

My current 161 A4 has the 150 HP TFSI motor and it's plenty adequate for my needs but the 125 HP version being the only option for the Passat would probably put me off buying one.

Is the VW configurator spec cast in stone or are there other engine options available to order?

I always find the configurators are hit and miss.

Your best bet is to probably just ring or call into your local VW garage and ask them.

Product guide is only listing the 1.4Tsi 125ps across all specifications. Used to be the case that you could get the 150ps in the Highline but looks like it's just 125ps now.

Didn't the 150bhp have cylinder deactivation? I think the 1.4 TSi engine is being phased out, it is being superseded by the new 1.5 TSi but you probably won't see that until the facelift Passat at the end of this year afaik.

I have the 120bhp in a B7 Passat, I don't think you will feel shortchanged, smooth and quick when pushed. We also have the 150bhp in a 2016 Superb, smoother, quicker and more more frugal (much more spacious as well). Maybe worth considering?

I've my heart more or less set on another A4 (getting a facelift for 2019) or a Passat, also getting a facelift. For some reason I could never quite like the Superb, even though it's probably more bang for your buck than a Passat or A4.
