Ford 1.6 TDCi, gearbox and the rest

    160k kms, Gearbox bearings are failing, needs new box, going to replace clutch and flywheel too.

    Anyone got any recs for a good job of it at a good price? Lowest price I got so far, in Dublin, €1600 +VAT. Ta.

    Have you tried Nass Gearbox Centre not sure on price comparison with other suppliers, but work is good and guaranteed.

    Ouch.

    A pair of genuine bearings for the input shaft are approx €160. I actually have a genuine pair for a 5 speed box somewhere...

    You could go with a €200 second hand gearbox, but the risk is there with second hand parts.

    DONT change the flywheel unless its faulty, the 1.6 DMF is extremely reliable compared to most others.

    Changing the clutch is a very easy job with the gearbox out. Just find a gearbox centre that will also take the box out, expect 2x bearings and clutch replacement to be €600-€800 all in.
