Claiming for delays and luggage damage

I'm going around a little in circles trying to figure out what I can claim for and from whom. I was hoping you good folk could provide some advice.

I booked a trip recently with SAS from Ireland to Denmark.

The outbound was as the beast from the east was descending upon us on Wednesday the 28th of February
    .
The return journey involved delay/rerouting and damaged hold luggage.

    Outbound:
My initial flight on Wednesday the 28th was cancelled as the incoming plane was diverted.

I was rebooked onto a flight on Friday the 2nd as the Thursday flight(which took off) was full by the time I got the details of how to call to rebook. The Friday flight was then cancelled as Dublin airport closed down.

I was rebooked again onto a 3 flight itinerary on Saturday the 3rd which departed and finally brought me to where I wanted to go :)

I couldn't get a hotel as they were booked out. I stayed with a relative and bought food and socks/underwear to cover this time. I have receipts for this.

    Return:
My initial flight back on Monday the 12th was cancelled due to heavy fog. I was rerouted via the Netherlands onto a KLM and then Aerlingus flight. The reroute delay was 5 1/2 hours. Sadly my checked in bags didn't make it to Dublin.

The 2 luggage bags arrived late on Thursday the 15th and both are damaged beyond repair. In one bag 2 bottles I had packed(wrapped in clothes) were smashed during transit causing liquid damage. Mostly it came out in the wash but some of the contents were gifts which were also damaged to a state that I could no longer give them as gifts.

I called the aerlingus baggage number to file a report. The lady took my details and gave me a reference. She said they'd be passed to guest services. Should I expect a call or do I need to get back on to them?

It was quite a travel experience :) I have travel insurance with an excess so would rather deal with what I can claim off the airlines first.

    Advice much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Fred. I was wondering about the outbound flight as thursday took off and they seemed unwilling to put me on a different airline and/or change my destination(more connecting flights). I'll head towards the insurance for the delay claims so.

I found a link from the consumer assocation about the montreal convention.

    https://thecai.ie/your-rights/your-rights/damaged-delayed-and-lost-luggage/

My damaged luggage claim should be well below the threshold specified in it.
