Returning to Work

My partner has secured full time work after a long period unemployed and we will be applying for FIS. I know there is a couple of weeks wait for fis to kick in and he will be getting paid monthly by the job, the 19th of each month. So he will be waiting a while before payment. In the meantime I'm not working and we have 3 kids to support, is there a supplementary payment we can get until FIS starts? Also do we just send a letter from his job in stating how many hours and his rate of pay in order for them to work out the amount of FIS we get?

This won't go down well, but don't inform them of the employment until you receive first paycheck. It's ridiculous that they don't let people receive the benefits up until the first payday. It's still saving them money in the long run.

    ^^^^
    This is what I done.
Kept collecting the jobseekers payment until my first paycheck.
Got a bill about a year later to repay 4 weeks over payments as that is how long I was waiting for my first paycheck.
Was back on my feet by that stage and had kept the money aside to repay once I got the bill so paid it straight off in one payment over the phone.
They also gave me an option of a repayment plan but I didn't need it.

They didn't ask me for it to be repaid at all. I was on JSB rather than JSA though so that could be a reason. Either way, this is probably your only option OP, unless you can borrow off someone. The Department won't be aware you are working until the first pay goes through anyway. It's not like you are being a fraud either, you are after getting yourself a job.

He's just told me his Seetac worker previously told him he could get a SWA for up to 30 days until he receives payment from his job. Thanks for your help everyone.
