Duster not starting/fuel filter problem

    Hi,

The engine in my three year old diesel Duster suddenly died the other day with no warning,I haven't been able to start it since except for a split second or two. No warning lights came up on the dash beforehand and it seemed to be a fuel starvation problem so I changed the filter but when I primed it,the diesel squirted straight up through what I assumed was a automatic bleed valve on the top of the filter housing. However, when I took the filter housing apart I discovered that the part I thought was an auto bleeding valve is actually some sort of switch that has burnt out and melted a hole in the top of the housing, that's why the diesel was squirting up when I primed the system.
The filter was quite dirty and in hindsight, the car probably was losing power, could this have somehow overloaded the electrical system and caused the burnout?
