Hi all, today of all days my gas boiler has packed up. Pressure has dropped to zero after slowly dropping for the last while. Have tried every trick in the book to fill it, just want to see if I'm doing the correct thing.

(Ignore the glass, theres a very small leak in the mains stopcock)

Mains comes in, there is a split and it heads into the kitchen. Mains continues to where the split for the filling loop goes towards the boiler, then continues into the tank.

This shows the layout. I think this is "Open" and should allow water into the boiler. The switch is open, the grey knob on the back of the brass thing is turned anticlockwise until it stops.

The black screw thing in the middle of the brass bit is screwed about half way. The previous owners made hell of it but it still screws clockwise and anticlockwise if you go at it with pliers. I don't have a key to it. I have fully screwed and unscrewed this, no dice.

Another look at the brass bit. You can see the pressure is zero (and it agrees with whats on the front of the boiler)

Heres the bottom of the boiler. Nothing really to adjust. You can see the filling loop pipe going in.

I have managed to fill it two or three times before, the last time very slowly (over hours), but this time it just won't fill, no matter what combinations of screwing and unscrewing I do. Has anyone any ideas? Nothing has changed since last time and the gas service a few weeks ago passed without a hitch. It was steady at about 0.5bar and went up to 1bar when it was turned on. But now it won't even start.

The gas boiler service man said that some plastic screw could have sheared off in the brass bit, but that seems a touch far fetched to me. This could well be a plumber job but god knows how long it would take for them to come out or how much it would cost. Certainly no movement until Tuesday.

    Any advice? I'm cold.

On the brass valve turn the grey knob fully Anti-Clockwise, then with a flat screwdriver slowly turn the disc inside the brass valve Clockwise until you hear water flowing through it, then stop turning.
Be ready to turn off the black lever valve at end of the silver flexible hose connection as soon as pressure reaches 1 bar, then rotate the black disc inside the brass valve back Anti-Clockwise approx 1/2 rotation or until water stops filling.

See thats the thing, I've tried that and nothing happens. Just to be sure I've tried those exact steps and I'll leave it overnight in case it trickles in. No water seems to flow and no increase in pressure is seen :(
