Hi All. Looking for some advice. For the past 20 yrs I have been on antidepressants. Just before Xmas I went to my GP as I had been feeling unwell for a considerable time. I had been on lexepro 30 mg for the last 3 yrs. As this was the highest dose I could be prescribed, I was told that maybe the medication had run its course and it was time to try something new. My choice was fairly limited as I have already been on most of the other ssri and effector. My GP put me on cymbalta. So I tapered down of the lexepro for a few weeks and then started the cymbalta 60mg for 4 weeks. 2 say these 8 weeks was hurendous is an understatement. Support from family has been great. My real issue I have now it that I have been on the 90mg 4 weeks now and I'm still suffering a lot of side effects. The meds seems to be working for the depression but I kinda feel in a haze all the time. Also struggling with the usual side effects of AD along with a lot of irrability and anxiety. I have been out of work sick the last 3 months and this is a constant worry for me. I'm due back in work in another week but I know I'm mentally not able to go. Between short term memory loss. Constant headsaps, migraines i wouldnt be able to do my job properly. I'm so worried over the medication and my job. I'm going back to my GP this week. So it's gonna be either give the meds more time or try another med which means another couple of months of hell. How long is an appropriate amount of time to take of work with depression. I don't know? But really worrying about how I'm being perceived in work after all this time out. I know all this worry is not helping me either. Sorry for the long post, was just hoping that someone may be able to give me some advice. many thanks in advance . Spike

Hi Spike, hard times. Think your doctor needs to know all the things going on regarding side effects and because you say your short term memory is bad i'd advise you write down everything.. Maybe you could return to a medication you haven't taken in a few years?
As for the sick leave i can't help, i would say to post in Work & Jobs forum about that..

Hi..I won't comment on the meds issue, but hopefully you can get it sorted..do you exercise and stuff yeah?..you could look into adaptagenic herbs..I found ashwagandha quite good..but yeah, regarding work..I was in a similar situation there a few years ago .(hospital and stuff..)..yeah, it can be hard..I didn't feel particularly judged or anything, and for the most part it was fine, but it's always kind of at the back of your mind..to be honest I still deal with it a bit years later.. But it's not going to go away.. It will be there whenever you go back..you might as well just face it sooner rather than later..
Hope it's not too bad.. Good luck..take care of yourself..
