I sold a phone on adverts yesterday. Working perfectly when I handed it over. Buyer has since got back to me saying the phone is not working and threating to bring me to court.

    Has he a right?

Has he a leg to stand on?

    Nope.

He should have 2 legs to stand on. Unless he lost them in an accident.

    Nope.
He checked it while I was there by entering some code and it worked great for him. Telling me he has the reg of the car

I think the important thing is that somebody actually sold something on adverts.

    Well done.

He hasn't in this case. He checked the device, worked fine when he got it, purchased it. Its a second hand good through a private sale. His problem now.

What did they say was wrong with the phone? If it's something like a terrible battery life then they have my sympathy as you can't really check that. Hard to believe it would just stop working after you sold it

saying the phone is not doing anything. Battery life is great on the phone. It looked brand new after been looked after, which they compliment on

    Would this be caveat emptor?

He brought it after looking over it and know it was network locked

Sold as seen, private sale, no warranty or comeback.

It's also why I only deal with people who have decent feedback (regardless of whether I'm buying or selling) as it normally means none of this nonsense. The low-balling and "swap?" offers are bad enough!

This is why I have never nor will ever buy a second hand phone, or anything electronic for that matter. If something goes wrong, it gets a bit complicated. Buy one in the shop, problem with it, return to shop. Keeping things simple.

I've bought electronics before, but there's a good reason they depreciate faster than cars.

    cena,
Bring you to court? he has your license plate? :pac:
Laugh it off dude. Look, you sold a perfectly working phone right? It don't matter if he has buyers remorse or dropped it himself yesterday. Tough.

But I do hate this stuff people do. Like trying to put the wind up others. "oh I have your license plate" - "I have rights" - no you don't have rights. You didn't buy it in a shop. You bought something off a randomer you met from a random website. End of.

Ah the ol' Adverts 'my same but broken model is actually the one you sold me' switcheroo.

Protip: If you sell second hand items often it might be of use to invest in a UV/Invisible ink pen

Leave some discreet markings on it and take photos/video of it before the sale.

Or just block the guy. Not your problem.

Sorry OP you're fùcked now. You'll have to enter some sort of protection scheme. Probably have to get plastic surgery and then start a new life thousands of miles away. You'll never see your family again and I'm sure in time you'll get used to your new name and location.
Shouldn't have let them see your car reg.

None. He's just trying it on and sounds a bit of a scammer. Have sold stuff on adverts before and always say in the ad that it's sold as seen, secondhand item has no warranty and put a link to the consumer protection commission site also.
