just wondering has anyone any idea of what would it cost to plant land per hectare. It would involve the planting at a rate of 400-1000 trees per hectare

Nothing if you apply for grant.

well, using the grant aided forestry scheme from DAFM comes with its limitations, they will specify over 2000 plants per hectare for a start, you must use a registered forester, and fencing and maintenance have exacting requirements.

If you use a spade or hire a spade man, then plants are cheap from none so hardy nurseries https://nonesohardy.ie/pricelist/

ground preparation on good soil is cheapest using rips otherwise mounding gives the trees a great start. I have no knowledge of the costs involved here perhaps others will chime in.
