Hi everybody, I got a job recently and I am looking for childminder. I have a family member that could do it but she is receiving Jobsekkers allowance at the moment. Is there any way she can't do it without being illegal? Unfortunately although my job is full time I won't be able to pay her full time as I am on minimum wage and if she get out of the social welfare payment, she probably won't be able to go back in if the circumstances change. Is there any way she could child mind for my and have some benefits? She is not registered or has any training but she minded my eldest before she stared to get the social welfare payment

State Benefits forum might be a better choice.

Once she is looking for full time work she can do what she likes while out of work. Don’t be putting money in her bank every week. Maybe buy her something nice as a thank you.

It’d be illegal maybe but hard to prove.

Report it to the gardai. They'll re-classify for you.

Hard to do that when they make her do courses, attend meetings, etc. That is why I was wondering if there was a legal way to do it. And she might be family but she would never do it for free. Thanks for the good wishes :)

I don't think it's possible unfortunately. Maybe try work it out with two family members for when the first has to attend courses, etc.

I didn't think so but I had to ask, I even thought in making her a contract but I don't know how that would work out. Or maybe Xs and Os?

Nearly all childminders are on the dole. 90% of people in Ireland have essentially the same income or at least disposable income.

And how they do it with the courses they make them do, do you have any idea?

You'd need to be an employer and liable for tax, etc. I assume.
