Looking for advice on choosing my wedding ring please.

My engagement ring is platinum. What would be the deal in getting a white gold wedding band? There's 300-400 dif in platinum bands and TBH I didn't buy my engagement ring and would not have known the dif. I thought it was white gold, as seems anyone who commented on it has said "ah, I love white gold!".

So appearance wise, it doesn't seem to matter but would there be issue with the 2 different metals side by side as read somewhere about one might wear the other down over time???? confused.png

Over time, the platinum will wear down the white gold as it's a softer metal.
If the engagement ring is "wed fit", I mean the head and stones are raised so that a flat wedding band can be worn flush against the engagement ring shank, it'll be less obvious as it's two flat surfaces rubbing against each other.

As you wear the two different metals, they'll age differently. The platinum will go a grey colour, the white gold (as the rhodium plating wears away) will go slightly yellowish grey. You can get your rings repolished and plated but I wouldn't recommend getting it done too often as it removes the tiniest layer from the surface of the metal. Too-frequent polishing will shorten the life of your rings.

Would you be recommencing going with same metal then?

You need to stick with the platinum. I know it's more expensive but over time it works out at better value because it's a much better metal. My rings are like new after 5 years. My husband went for white gold + amount of scratches is unreal! Also try a few on as depending on style of your engagement ring not all wedding rings will sit flat beside it.

Personally I would go with the same metal if platinum is within your budget. You're probably going to wear them everyday for the next 50 years, and you want them to last as long as possible. (Anything you wear everyday for 50 years is going to wear out but you hope they'll last that long!)

My wedding and engagement rings are platinum but I'm a goldsmith so I only had to pay the materials costs. :-)

If your engagement ring is wed fit (head raised above the shank), you should be able to get any flat / straight band to match. If the head of your engagement ring is within the band, you might get a contour ring to fit exactly around the curves. This ring won't spin like a straight ring, the top part will always be worn as the top, so you will get slightly different wear to the surfaces in contact.

Any ring will scratch as soon as you start wearing it, that's just life. Don't wear your rings lifting weights or digging the garden. Some level of scratching will happen with normal wear no matter what metal you choose.
