How do I clean 40 year old car seats?

    Hi All,

    Cream colour cloth material, seats and door cards are grubby and stained, and
    I generally want to freshen it up as last owner would not have done anything with the inside. I would prefer not to take covers off the seats as I feel they are delicate after 40 years!!. Front and back seats are currently out of the car!

    Any ideas of products/methods to use?

    Best way to clean them - a match and petrol :pac:

    Seriously though - Are they still supporting as they should be with no broken springs, bolsters etc? It might be worth getting them retrimmed and refurbished with new foam etc.?

    If that's not an option, you can rent a machine called a rug doctor from hardware stores (I know one of my local hardware stores rents them). You buy the detergent etc. and it's a DIY job. Alternatively if you have a valeting centre local to you that's also an option.
