A biohacker in Australia has been fined A$220 (£120, $170) for removing the chip from a travel card and implanting it into his hand.

Meow-Ludo Disco Gamma Meow-Meow (real name) also has to pay A$1,000 in costs.

The case was brought by the New South Wales transport authority which issues the contactless Opal card.

Mr Meow-Meow was charged for travelling without a ticket, although the fare was on the chip inside his hand.

It was still able to be scanned by card readers.

In his most recent Facebook post, he had asked supporters to "wish him luck" as he faced court. He had admitted the charge.

    BBC

Damn Aussie transport authority Luddites, the future is here no matter how much they try hold it back

I like it when somebody does something weird and we can all point at him and say ‘weirdo’.

This is the maverick that will blindly walk us into civil obedience and the disappearance of individuality.

We must resist the urge to make him a hero. We don’t want him to be an idol.

If you're going about travelling and calling yourself "Mr.Meow Meow" on the passport sheet, you're asking for definite grief

And if you claim your first name is "Disco" you're f**ked altogether

There was a guy that dressed as a wizard in London that took the chip out his oyster card and stuck it in a wand.

Walked up to the barrier taps the wand and off he goes.

Never fined. Think LUL even used him in a promotion.

Quite a timely warning. Would suggest he should have his hand cut off, just in case...

In the late 70s, everybody's first name was "Disco".
