Audi going into limp mode

Looking for a bit of help. I have a 2007 audi a4, 1.9 tdi. I attempted to drive it today and it went into limp mode as soon as I touched the accelerator. Also the coil light and traction control light came on. I turned it off and restarted, it was fine again until I touched the accelerator and it was straight away into limo mode again.

Any ideas? Would it be safe to drive to a mechanic or anything I can check?

Should be ok to drive a short distance. You really need to get it scanned to check error codes. It could be any number of things causing your problem. The EGR is one thing that springs to mind, but you really need a competent mechanic to look at it.

Best bet is to get it scanned for codes.
Were are you based? Someone local may be able to scan it

When u say straight away do u mean the minute the car moves?
    Or say above 2000 Rpm
Could be any number of things
    Like said get it scanned
Egr could be clogged if car hasnt been drivin hard
    Bad Maf
    n75
    Bad actuator on turbo
Vanes could be sticking on turbo

First place to check if it was me would be Egr

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Yeah straight away as in as soon as I put it in gear and begin to release the clutch it's gone straight away. It sits then at 1200rpm no matter if I floor the pedal or release it!! Going to try and get it to my mechanic and get the codes read... Bummer that it happened the Bank Holiday weekend!!

My money would be on the egr fairly common problem on that engine. Have replaced a few in the past while. Really really not a nice job whatsoever and very expensive also. It could be a blocked dpf either tho which would prob make sense if the car doesn’t get driven on long drives.

Had same issue with my old Audi 2002 -took her for a good blast to Dublin from cork driving hard cured issue. Carbon build up in turbo I suspect as not driven enough at the time. Easy to try it anyway only cost a bit of diesel

Quick update, I left it overnight and when I went back to it again the following day it was fine again, like the problem was never there!! That's 2 days ago now! I'll try take it for a few hard drives to give the egr a bit of a clear out and hope for the best!! Cheers guys!!

Its up to you,But there s good diys on the internet of the mr muscle treatment for the turbo vanes
Worked a treat on my old passat
Just be careful using the mr muscle

You only have to remove the egr feed pipe from the exhaust
Get some long peice of plastic tubbing to fit to nossle and spray into the exhaust side of the turbo

Obviously removal to clean turbo is the best thing to do but involves alot of work

Give it the italian tune as they call it when your done,Make sure car is up to tempreture and so is the engine oil

I usually use 3rd gear for it on a motorway, hold car around 4000 rpm just a few hundred rpm below redline

I do it regulary in my car
My engine is well metained so again its up to you

    Cheers
