Long scratches on bodywork of my 08 trade-in car

    Ok... Help needed please -

I am trading in my 08d 320d car for a new VW tiguan
Paid 1k deposit and ordered new car - should be here next month
Garage told me the would sell the bmw car via auction (and told me not to spend any money on it ...)

Due to an unforeseen issue ... Car has now a long few Scratches on the passenger side (body work is OK just paint affected and mostly back door)

Can you comment on what I should here :

1- Show damaged car to dealer and hope he will say all is fine ??
    2- Get this fixed - 150/200 euros..
3- stop worrying as this will not impact auction car selling price....

    thank you

Personally I wouldn't worry about it if it's going to auction

Yeah, wouldn't touch it, unless you've wrote it off they won't care

Get a blue permanent marker and run it over the scratches a few times.

Leave it dry before you do it each time .

    Works wonders ;)

I’d leave it as is, so if they do see the scratch after washing it, it won’t be obvious that you were deliberately hiding it.

I may get a touch up done - next door neighbour said he could do it for 50 quid + 20 for paint ... he has all the gear to do it and he is good at that king of stuff . I think this should be enough and cheap fix?

It's up to you but I just wouldn't bother. I'm sure they priced it well in their favour to account for the condition when they valued it as a trade-in.

I am still on the fence but I really don’t want any hassle in the new car pick up day ... want it to be a “happy day “ - first time getting a brand new car so for 70 Euro maybe I should go with it ...

If they aren't keeping the car then they won't care about those marks

To me that looks like it would polish out with some compound.....

    I would try that first.

Paint it cheap, paint it twice. Unless he has access to a proper spray booth he's just going to leave it in worse condition than it is.

As mentioned above if you're really wanting it sorted use that 70 quid and get someone good to machine polish the door. The result will be a hundred times better than a cheap spray job.

He has a good polish machine to finish it up and said he would be using one of those tiny brush to cover the damage - we won’t be spraying - afaik he ordered proper paint mix 100 ml i think - he said 2/3 hour work will be needed -

It looks like a lot of that is transferred paint from something else. I'd just put a bit of petrol on a microfiber cloth and wipe the scratch. It could take the worst look of it.

Don't paint it. A car dealer will spot a touch up before a scratch.

You could always just ask the dealer.

If they say it's a non issue, you can relax. If they say it is an issue you can negotiate an adjusted value of the car or have it repaired yourself.

A mark like that on a ten year old car being traded in to a main dealer off a brand new car is not going to make a blind bit of difference though. They won't want to lose you over the scratch wither.

Thank you all for the feedback - plan then is to cover the few deeper spot with paint, polish the rest and make sure the car is as dirty as possible when completing the sale - I am pretty sure this is a non issue but this cannot hurt and will put my mind at ease —- will be super careful over the next few weeks :-) will post pics one done ...

Drive it through a field or where there is a building site.

Any questions you never seen the mark....

Can't see why you are going to such bother with it tbh. a car dealer would prefer to see something that isn't touched up, if they care at all. If they don't care and are sending it to auction the scratch won't bother them anyway.

Tbh it's just a waste of money and counterproductive trying to cover it up. It's only a small scratch anyway.
