Thinking about tiling a wood desk.

Bit of a random one maybe, I'm working on a design project and considering tiling an old reception desk. Planning to stripe the desk back, it's some kind of wood, pretty solid, but not sure what kind, and then cover it with small mosaic tiles.
The other option is painting it to achieve a kind of concrete effect, but it gets a lot of contact, so thought tiling might be the better option.

Is titling it a viable option, or even possible?
    Thanks for any advice!

Possible, if there is not too much flex in the desk, plus it will get heavier

Get your self some tile backer board approx 6mm I've seen some in 3mm
Screw it to the table top then tile away to your hearts content run a piece of timber around the edge that'll give a finish to the tile edge .

    Appreciate the replies.
No flex in the desk, it's already a beast weight-wise, so tiling is an alternative to bringing it down a few flights of stairs. It's been in place since the 80's.

The tile backer def' sounds like a solid option alright.

    Cheers!
