Help a brother out, which would you choose, both with full leather interior and 4 years old?

Depends what you want from a car. The S60 would have a bit less space than the CC but the D4 engine would be more powerful. The S60's boot would be a bit smaller and narrower too. The CC is basically a 4 door coupe so rear headroom is sloping and the rears seats are really only designed for 2 people with a centre centre more suited for short journeys.

Thanks, I do love the look of the d4 engine, and the exhausts are a joy. I do like a bit of responsiveness and power coming from a 1.8 petrol 125hp engine and I do fear that the diesel will feel sluggish in comparison.

But just look at that cc, and its interior. The boot is important for golf clubs too. I can try to hold out to find a 170hp version but hear there's not much difference. Or get it remapped...

What car are you in at the moment OP?

Personally I prefer the look of the volvo. But it sounds like you want the CC. Best idea would be to test drive one and see what you think.

Am in a Volvo s40 now and do love it, an underrated car in my opinion. And it's a 1.8 petrol so a fair bit of power for its size.

I think I prefer the look of the cc, but would prefer the d4 engine from the Volvo.

Am looking at 141/142, approx 80k miles on the clock. A test drive would be the way to go I suppose, sounds like no one has any major issues with either.

The S80 is often overlooked. Fair enough it’s not as smart looking as an s60 but it’s a lot of barge for the money.

op is talking about the VW CC

TBH performance wise you should drive the CC. I can't imagine you will find it any slower than the s40.

    Looking at the 0-60 for example the s40 1.8 takes 10.6s https://www.parkers.co.uk/volvo/s40/saloon-2004/specs/

The Passat CC Tdi 140 takes 9.5s (https://www.parkers.co.uk/volkswagen/cc/saloon-2012/specs/

I had a Passat CC with 140bhp and had it remapped which transformed it. If you can find a stock 170bhp then all the better. The boot on the CC is very deep but the coupe opening is very similar to a saloon but you should be able to fit a set of Golf clubs in there but may have to fold down the rear seats. I cannot imagine the S60's boot being as flexible even with the back seats down.

One thing to watch with the CC is that my car developed a fracture in the gearbox housing @ 65k km and subsequently needed a new clutch/flywheel and gearbox which luckily was covered under warranty. It doesn't seem to a widespread issue with them but just sharing my ownership experience of them. Another thing to check on them is the air conditioning compressor, these are known to fail and a replacement from VW will cost north of €500. Other than that they are a very nice car, you will easily see 50mpg from that engine and they share alot of parts with the regular Passat of the same vintage.

Had an S40 1.8 125bhp myself until last week. Before changing I test drove a 181bhp D4 S60 Automatic and thought it was really excellent. If you haven't tried the Auto, give it a shot.

It's definitely a car I'm still considering in the future. I then went and looked at the D6 Hybrid AWD becasue I thought it was cool AF but the Revenue depreciation rate on them means that the VRT for a 2013/2014 is still around €4k.

So what did you end up getting?
