    Hi,

I have my son pre-enrolled in Educate Together and understand the ethos of the schooling, but was wondering if anyone has been from a Catholic background and had/wants to have their child make their communion/confirmation? I understand this wouldn't be taught in the school, but do you know if they run extra classes or any other way the child can make these sacraments outside of the school curriculum?

    Thanks,

shouldn't you be asking the church.

Ask the school. What often happens is the Catholic parents will get together and arrange lessons privately and get permission from the school to use a classroom after school or at a weekend. But that depends on a number of factors such as there being enough parents who can make it happen and availability of classroom.

If you speak to the priest after mass on Sunday he will be glad to help you out on this. The school you picked for your child won’t be providing any sacramental preparation.

The school may well facilitate parents who want to provide sacramental preparation as an after-school activity. Check with your school to see if this happens today. Approval of these activities is usually done year to year, so the fact that these activities happen today is not a guarantee that they will happen when you child reaches the appointed year.

I know children in a few different Educate Together schools who do religion classes outside of school time. One school facilitates the lessons in the school. The children (parents) of the other school use a room in the library next door to the school.

You should check with the school. I've worked in 3 ET schools and all offered religious education classes outside of school. These classes are organised by a committee of parents who liaise with the local parish. In each of the above schools a classroom in the school was used for these classes and an outside teacher comes in to teach the classes. There is usually a small charge on a termly basis to pay for the teacher and any books used. In each of the schools I've worked in we've celebrated with the children on the day of their sacrament and had a small party back in the school for them and their parents. Hope this helps
