Unrealistic expectations?

Hi all, We are selling our 2011 BMW 520d estate. Just put a new battery in it, new windscreen, 2 new tyres, being NCT'd on Tuesday so it will be perfect for a new owner. Had a new bmw engine put in a couple of years back so mileage on the new engine is low if that makes a difference to buyers. Overall mileage might look very high to someone who's not in the know (like me!!) Have the paperwork to prove everything.

Now, I put the car up for sale at €11500, which seems to be one of the cheapest in the country. My husband thinks we could have gotten more. I have been offered 11k for it but he won't budge.

Is he being unrealistic or am I?
Don't want to lose out on the sale but also don't want to sell it too cheap if im undervaluing it.

    Thanks!!

Whats the mileage? What spec, SE/ M sport? Manual / auto?

    Link to add?

If I'm not mistaken, it's this one.

And here is another one which is cheaper and auto.

In fairness, one can probably source one from a dealer for not much more. I'd say take the 11k and be done with it, but that's just me.

Engine might have 30k but everything else is still a 160k car. I'd take the 11k and run.

I'd think I would take the 11k if the offer is still on the table, there is a good chance that holding out for 11.5k results in it being unsold and you having to drop the price and eventually end up getting less than 11k for it. Its rare to get your exact asking price.

I'd be happy to take the 11k, just need to convince the husband. Will be good to show these answers to him!!

    You need better pictures.

Copy the angles used in this ad

Although you don't think it a lot of men buy into the pretty pictures, think "car porn"

    If it helps:

All the recent expenses are just ongoing running and maintenance costs really. A car needs a working battery. A broken windscreen needs replacing. Tyres wear out and the NCT has to be done. It sucks, but nothing about that puts any more value on the bottom line. It just means the car has been maintained. At your asking price, a buyer will have every right to expect that, in fairness.

The engine replacement will be a positive for a very small number of people and a big turn-off for even lot more. I'm talking 'average car buyers' here. Look at it this way; A UK import, sold privately with a replacement engine (a few years and 30,000 kms ago) and no warranty is not a terribly attractive proposition generally, unless it's priced accordingly.

As already mentioned, the car has 160k kms on it. Nothing about it is 'like a brand new car'. That means nothing to anyone who might buy it. Nothing.

Nice car and you seem genuine and realistic yourself. I hope it sells for you.
