2007 E Class or 2008 C Class

I have it in my head I want a mercedes. Have done with some time now. I have done loads of research and still don't know which I'd rather. Obviously I will test drive both but any advice anyone can give me on either? Both would be the 1.8 kompressor engine. I know the facelift E class is a much improved car. I like the 2008 C Class looks wise but would it be even half as comfortable as an E Class?

The C-Class from that era is rather tweaked towards handling rather than comfort, however it's still quite a comfy car, to me at least, but it feels more 'connected' and 'agile' than the E-class... they're really quite different. I much prefer the C-Class myself but you can't argue with the space offered by the e-class.

The C-class is also a much newer and improved platform over the previous one and should be less prone to rust and electrical issues that may appear on the e-class (mind you, and as you noted yourself, the facelift is much better in that respect). I think the c-class makes more 'sense' as it will most likely be easier to sell on later as it looks a lot fresher than the e-class, however there is nothing like getting in both and give them a good drive yourself to see which one you fancy most ;)

Comfortable in what sense? Interior? Driving dynamics?

The cars you're looking at, what specification are they? Avantgarde/Sport, Classic, Elegance?

It would be useful if you put up the particular cars you're considering to we could give more specific advice.

Are these two on the short-list? I saw your question about the Car Crew.

I'd pick the C class, if you're trying to decide between those two. The E class is a lovely car, but it's getting very long in the tooth now and I can't ignore the unsuitability of the 1.8 in a car its size. It's much more suited to the C class.

I'd be giving that serious consideration myself if I was in the market for an early W204 sedan. From that dealer, in that (relatively affluent) area, that's a very genuine car.

1 owner, 20,000 kms, black leather etc. Being sold with a comprehensive warranty for a little more than the C class linked above.

Certainly worth a look to someone reading this thread!

ya your point about being fresher and easler to sell on is exactly why im not going straight for the E Class. ive always loved the facelift E Class but I do get that they are getting a bit long in the tooth.

It might be my eyesight, but. Not even alloys? I'd need some alloys on a Merc.

I'd be more interested in getting a 12,000 mile, 1 owner car with full leather and a half decent autobox and picking up a set of genuine MB alloys I like later on for 300-400 euro.

If it was between those two, I'd go for the E class, if for no other reason than the fact the C class is manual. Manual mercs are just not worth buying.

I agree. Except that it's not manual. Look at the pictures. It's a listing error in their advert.

Good spot - that's what I get for only reading the description! I'd go for the fresher looking C class in that case.

I cant link at the minute but yes that E Class is the one im talking about. the C Class I have in mind isn't with them, its a private seller, its on donedeal, 2008 grey 1.8 115km I think. €5250 but it'd be got for less. I suppose a test drive of each will probably decide it for me.

Agree, if the mileage checks out, it could be sweet as a nut.
