Irish citizenship after marriage

Hi guys,
I’m currently living in London but after a few years working in the UK am on the way home in 2019. Can’t wait.

Just to complicate things, my girlfriend of many years and I are finally getting married later this year (in Dublin). She’s a US citizen who lives in Maryland but loves Ireland and obviously wants to move here with me after we're married.

She wants to become an Irish citizen but does anyone know how the whole residency and citizenship thing works for the likes of us?

When she has been living here in Ireland constantly for 3 years as a foreign national married to an Irish citizen and has documentary evidence for each year to prove this (you will also need documentary evidence 3 types each) then she can apply for Irish citizenship.

Here’s information about when she comes to live here with you.

Here’s the citizenship application form. The notes at the start specify all the documents you both will need to have when the time comes for her to apply.
Be aware that this is the current form.
In 3 years time the evidence needed may have changed.
I think it would be a good idea when you come to start a “citizenship” folder where you can accumulate the documents.

She wont get citizenship but she will be entitled to a residency visa
I think the renewal terms are 1 year, then 3 years, then 5 years
You are off course entitled to go for citizenship after three years
