Yeah would be good, a 300 Hp GtE Golf. That would be special !

I don't think it's talk, they know they need to do something to recover form the diesel scandal which cost them what, 20 Billion USD ? though it didn't effect them much in Europe.

Interesting all the same but it seems the money is spent or agreements made so they must be serious ?

Tesla can’t meet a fraction of their orders. No need for them to worry about competitors.

I think once the German Auto Manufacturers get serious about electrics Tesla could be in serious trouble.

Seriously, think about it, if you are a badge snob what would you rather sitting in your drive or what would you rather show up to a dinner party in , a Tesla, BMW or Merc ?

Would Elon be too bothered if Tesla failed or would he be happy enough to have succeeded in getting the major manufacturers to build electric cars ?

Isn't that more an issue that have a problem making them rather than a huge demand.

That's actually a very interesting philosophical question :)

Why would they release a new eGolf? The current model was only released last year. It is sold out Worldwide. Based on review it is one of the best electric cars on the market.

Even the competition do not have an offering which is ahead of it currently.

Nissan haven't even released the new Leaf and it is only getting around the same distance as the eGolf.

Only Hyundai have come out with bigger battery announcement but that is not available yet.

They have announced cars for 2019 and that will have the new batteries.

Cause eGolf is the only EV they have and the ID range is about as real as Kim K ass

The Golf is everything to everybody :)

The eGolf is a very decent EV, better than most other companies have. Where are Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Opel, Peugeot / Citroen, all the big boys? They don't even have any EVs...

Ford offers an electric Focus but it seems to have been a flop.

No DC charging, no availability and too expensive.

Less range than an Ioniq and slower than a Leaf

Its a middle of the road EV, does nothing well or bad, with a premium price tag

    Could be way better

VW didnt want to do that

They don't want to sell it here for a reason, hence select few dealers and price tag

Even the VW guy on here that took you for a sweetner, said they are not pushed on selling it

If Tesla went bankrupt tomorrow, ID range drawings and VW supposed battery contracts would be burned to the ground, never to be seen again

Even with the scrappage discounts they were still quoting me north of 30k. Which is ridiculous IMO. It looked a great car, I love golfs we've had a few diesels - but I couldnt justify >30k for an e-golf when a little bit more will get you a model S.

Also agree with your point re "if tesla went bankrupt".
If there was no Tesla, there would be no EVs from major manufacturers.

You've a shaky grasp of business I think. If you can't meet a fraction of your orders you'd really want to be very worried about competitors!

    I dont agree.

A well reasoned point if I've ever seen one.

How has it less range than Ioniq?

You say it is middle of the road but any person that has sat in one have all said it is a level above anything else on the road. Including the Ioniq. You have never sat or drove one so I don't know how you can make that comment.....

You keep saying that is Tesla went bust blah blah blah, this is complete bulls**t.

Majority of posts on here about ID and you kept saying they had no batteries so could never go to market. Now they have batteries and your making up more cr*p.

eGolf 2018 EPA range is 125 miles
Ioniq 2018 EPA range is 124 miles.

So they are practically equal. But if you need to recharge the eGolf has similar throttling issues to the 2018 leaf (Watch Bjorn's review of the new eGolf, its down to 30kW after the second FCP) so over any distance longer than 124 miles the Ioniq has much better range.

I’m saying that they should be more worried about themselves than competitors. If they can only make 700 cars a week then what VW do will be if little bearing.

That is an unfair statement. You clearly haven't driven all 3 (Ioniq / Leaf / eGolf), otherwise you would not be making that remark.
    thierry14 wrote: »

It's a premium car compared to Ioniq and Leaf. It is better made, it's more sophisticated and it drives better. And if you can get the diesel scrappage, it's only a couple of thousand more than the others. You'd probably get most of that back come trade in as Golfs traditionally depreciate less. So a premium car, without the premium price tag.

With the diesel scrappage, the car is a bargain. Without the scrappage it's a bit overpriced
