    Quick one lads and ladettes,

07 Saab 9-5 estate or 08 Mondeo zetec estate.
Both 2 litre petrol. Same tax (Mondeo's an early 08)
    Decisions, decisions.

No diesel discussion needed. Car will be for school runs/shopping, no huge journeys.

i have 08 saab 93, all though it diesel, the comfort of that car is unreal. Had an Audi a4 and it tops that in terms of handling and comfort. You may get better spec saab too and i believe they are way better looking.
    just my 2 cents

I am a Saab fan, and could manage to over look a lot of things wrong with the 93 for its quirkiness. But not the estate , it is seriously fugly. If you must, just ensure that everything works. If it is an estate you are looking for, might I suggest the Volvo V70

Go for the Saab, the estate is a lovely looking car IMO. The mondeo is...well a Mondeo, drab, boring and incredibly dull and you'll just be another mondeo driver which no one wants to be.

I do not think the Mondeo is dull but they are very common and lots of them around so even do they are good to drive and parts are cheap they are not that special.
The Saab on the other hand is less common so is more special and will certainly stand out more.
The Saab also might appreciate in value as they get less and less whereas the Mondeo just losses value more.

I would say to the OP just buy the car you like best and find the more comfortable for what you want it for.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Surprised so many people are opting for the Saab on the basis that it is somehow a less boring choice - Saabs stopped being cool and interesting a looooooooooooong time ago. It's just a Vectra in an ugly suit. I'd go for the Mondeo personally, as it will probably be more reliable, and certainly will be cheaper to fix if something does go wrong, and it is newer, but at the end of the day, there isn't a huge difference between them so just drive both and go for the one you prefer.

I love Saabs. I am on my fourth.Great cars.

However, you have to bear in mind that Saab are gone and not likely to return. At some stage, there will be no more spare parts available for Saabs, especially body panels, in spite of what some people will tell you.

Also, Saabs will never appreciate in value. Never. There is just not enough demand for them.

Furthermore, where will you get it serviced? The last Saab dealer in Dublin, Gordon Kellett, is retiring next week. His chief mechanic is looking to set up his own business, and that'd be great, but not assured as yet.

If you have to decide between the Saab and a Mondeo (there are other options), go for the Ford. Maybe take a look at a Volvo.
