Quick clarification on being VAT registered in 2 countries

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to clarify something real quick.

I'm currently VAT registered in Ireland, and am in the process of being VAT registered in the UK as well (due to Amazon and UK Revenue insisting I do so to continue my current business methods).

    Am I right in saying...

Anything that sells in the UK - > Pay VAT to the UK Revenue
Anything that sells anywhere else - > Pay VAT to the Irish Revenue

    Right?

(I'm well below all thresholds in all other countries btw, but do sell to Germany, Spain, Italy and France via Amazon)

Now, here's the second part then; having the Irish VAT number means I pay 0% VAT on anything bought within the EU from other VAT registered companies. 90% of my trade is from Greater Europe anyway (Germany, Italy and Netherlands), and I rarely shop in the UK. But when I do, should I be giving the UK Businesses the UK VAT number and then reclaiming it back from the UK Revenue? Or am I ok leaving them with the Irish VAT Number and getting the 0% VAT (which is far less complicated)?

    Thanks guys and gals :)

This is something you should really discuss with your accountant.
