Is our water drinkable?

The attached photos are water drawn from the rising main in the last couple of days. Is this really safe to drink because it does not look like it. This occurs intermittently during the day with the result that we are buying a lot of bottled water.

We are in Dublin 16, Ballyboden.

    Hi dapop,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

Sometimes after work occur in an area, supply can become discoloured. We recommend not consuming this supply until it is completely clear.

You can find more on discoloured water here.

    Thanks,
    Mairead

    Thank you for your reply.

To be honest I am far from reassured by the response.

I appreciate that water supplies can be discoloured temporarily following repairs but this has been ongoing since the snow. It happens intermittently on a daily basis. There was a repair in our road days ago but the issue was there before this work and continues long after the work.

It now seems the water in the local Creche (our children attend) is coloured in the same way.

On the basis of your previous reply are we to tell the Creche to stop using tap water? Are we to assume tap water is no longer potable?

Local shops are selling out of bottled water so this suggests the issue is common in the area.

I look forward to your response.
