Hi. Recently bought a new VW Golf 2014 and it’s due in the next week. I have been told by people that you have to pay for the voice command system? Can anyone shed any light on this topic?
(Apologies if post is in wrong section)

Basically yes you do have to pay. As far as I know it needs special VW software to activate.

What if the person ahead of me had it purchased already? Is any parts of it accessible without paying?

If it's purchased and activated it will just work. No the button is not functional without activating it.

Yeah every Mk7 except for the extreme poverty spec ones will have the buttons on the wheel.

It's unlikely to be activated already imo as it wasn't standard on any spec in 2014. The software purchase is around €150 and the garage will charge around 30mins labour to program it.

Don't think I'd pay for it regardless.

Don't you need the Discovery or Discovery Pro infotainment system for that? Normally came as part of the Technology Packs that the Golfs got from late 2014 onward.
