Permit since 2007. Passed test, number of allowed penalty points?

Hi,

My Son has just passed his driving test. He has his privisional licence since 2007 so was allowed 12 penalty points on his provisional licence. Now that he is technically a Novice driver is he only allowed 7 penalty points? Even though he had his provisional since 2007?

Thanks, obviously I hope he wont have any as he has not in all his years driving, but just wondering.

What matters is when the driver number was issued (when your driving records began), was it before or after August 2014. Your son will have a 12 point limit as his record began prior to this date.

Basically, your driver number is unique to you and only one driver number will ever be issued to a person even if they get a single learner permit which expires, and a decade later they resume driving, the same driver number will be reissued to them. It's like a PPS number.

Thanks very much that is good to know, not that he will be planning on gettin any. He has his learner permit/licence since 2007.
