I have an 05 Golf (140,000 km) that the wife and daughter drive happily around town.

I was looking at trading my 2010 Octavia with 220,000 km on clock for an SUV type new car.

With all the hype of getting older cars insured etc... should I look at using the 05 against a scrappage deal??? and move wife & daughter to the 10 Octavia??

    Any thoughts????

Also... who offering good Scrappage deals?? I see that there is no scrappage against the Kodiaq - so not every one doing such deals.

I think the Kodiaq has a supply vs demand issue so they don’t need to do deals on them.

Do you need something as big as the Kodiaq?

Ford are practically giving away the Kuga these days.

Seat are doing 3k off the Ateca and Nissan have upto 4.5k off the new Qashqai for scrappage.

They’ve knocked something like €10k off the RRP of the edge too, it was ridiculously overpriced in the first place though.

All I can say is scrapoage deals aside, look what you’re actually getting for the money and how the car would fit in with your needs. the best car for you isn’t always the one with the biggest discount.

Edge facelift arriving now too so probably trying to shift what they have.

Is it really a scrappage discount rather than a cash discount for having no trade in for them to have to sell on?
I'd call into a few garages, decide what you want & then see if they'll give you a better price if you don't scrap.

I was offered 4.5k scrappage for my old Passat (engine blew & had to be replaced). That was from a scrap yard not the garage. They then said as I did not have a trade in they would knock 2500 off the price of the car.

The manufacture is giving the discount and calling it a scrappage scheme, the dealer will still get their margin.

This. Scrappage is just one aspect. You really need to consider the best car for you and your family.

Are not most scrappage deals given only if you take the manufacturers finance or PCP?

Nearly all new cars are bought with the dealers finance packages. Most bank loans have higher interest rates and cash buyers are a small percentage of the market.

    No.

Looking online it's made out that it only comes with finance packages. If the cash was there and had a scrappage offer, I assume that would be ok without affecting the amount of scrapple offered?

Not that I’ve noticed, have you any links?

The way these are worded it seems an emphasis on finance deals.

My situation is we have an old car (99 corolla only 88k miles on clock), clutch beginning to slip. Not entirely keen on putting big money into it, know will need more regular work shortly too. This would amount to far more we can sell.

Parents came up with idea that I take their car, they can get new one (they've saved for it, no finance required). Looking at scrappage for them to avail of using our current car, but those deals appear weighted towards finance, so hoping it isn't an issue.

The Toyota upgrade to hybrid seems to be linked to PCP

    Scrappage terms here
    Trade In Trade Up Bonus

    • Trade In Trade Up Bonus applies to all passenger vehicles except Avensis, C-HR 1.2 Luna Sport and Sol, GT86 and Verso ordered and registered between the 1st and 31st of March 2018.
    • The offer is applicable to all vehicles aged 2013 and older that are traded in against a new Toyota passenger car ordered and registered between the 1st and 31st of March 2018.
    • The Trade In Trade Up Bonus is a combination of a trade in bonus for 2013 vehicles and older, a diesel scrappage bonus for 10 year and older diesels cars and free specification on select models.
    • All vehicles must be sourced from Toyota Ireland and purchased from an authorised Toyota Dealer in the Republic of Ireland.
    • Any passenger vehicles ordered and registered outside the period the 1st and 31st of March 2018 do not qualify for the offer.
    • Your ability to negotiate your own deal is not affected in anyway by this offer.
    • All vehicles which are traded in must be taxed and insured at the time of trade-in and have a valid NCT certification.
    • This offer applies to retail sales only and excludes Fleet assisted sales.
    • This is a mutually exclusive offer and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers other than Flex finance.
    • Available at participating dealers only

The Skoda one says get 0 percent finance or Skoda scrappage so I doubt its linked,

    Could be wrong of course.

I just read it as if you get scrappage there'll be a higher interest rate. Would make sense if you're going for scrappage and finance I guess, cheers!

Check with a dealer but it doesn’t read like that to me.

Cheers for that. Checked with dealers, parents got sorted with new car, now just have to get ours to them to be sorted

A Skoda Rapid, but not the baseline one either. Think they're getting over 3/4k scrappage for our one so it falls back under their budget which is sweet, really works out for everyone as they're retirement age and the Octavia is physically too big for my mam to handle
