the new owners certainly seem to be scaling Eir right down with all those job cuts and abandoning the NBP. Will be interesting to see will they do anything to change/improve the customer service and experience.

Telecom companies are all scum, they all have the same 'pump and dump' type of business model. worked in a call centre for one here, it changed names twice before they upped sticks and moved it overseas, and certain middle managers were forced to go to the overseas centre and train their replacements, to ensure they got their redundancy.

and of course we have the unsurprising news that 'concern over big job cuts comes as a small number of top Eir executives, including former CEO Richard Moat, prepare to share a windfall of up to €200m, triggered by the sale to Niel's company.

Eugene Quinn of trade union Forsa said it had lodged a claim for an equivalent payout for ordinary staff, but that the company had not responded to this claim.'

and people in this country still think we should sign up and start paying for water, as if the same thing wouldn't happen as soon as we do - eircom used to be a state utility, remember.

    Not quite.

Eircom/OE have been scaling way back since before 2010. KNN/KNIS exists because of this. The fact is the unions tried to do a CIE and were quite successful - so much so that the outsourcing option became 10x more attractive.

Eg: Techs have been known to log "Tech on site" messages from their beds. Vans have GPS in them. GPS is not allowed in disciplinary actions.

Eg: There are a cohort of techs who still have no DSL training and only deal with phone faults (noise on line, no dial tone) which are by far the minority of cases.

Now, I'm not saying the current setup is ideal, KNN take the fúcking piss on the regular but it was always going to happen when you had an org setup like a semi state where the concept of being fired for not performing your duties is an alien concept.

Lucky shareholders, the share will rise!

Ireland is part of EU, so Irish gvt has to follow "Broad guidelines for economic policies". All services have to be private, only army (but with private contractors) and law will stay national.
And private companies can do what they want, even relocate or take money outside EU.
    ...and Union can do... nothing!

Erhmm ... Eircom is already incorporated in Jersey ... and has been for a long while. That and funds have been not benefiting Ireland in a a very long time. All going to Oz. So the state utility times are long long long gone.

Customer service is already outsourced, and look at what a success that has been!!!!! As ED E says, they have been downsizing and outsourcing for years. It will be interesting to see what/where else they decide to cut.

Truth is and Eir tech's will admit it (some have to me) some of them* had it incredibly easy. A neighbor of mine had not far off 35 years in the company. Was on huge money and basically told me he worked for about 2-3 hours per day max. This went up to 4-5 hours after a storm. He got a huge redundancy deal, and then went back to do the same job for KN networks. He lasted about 6 months with KN due to the shock of having pressure and a proper 6-7 hours of work per day. Now retired at about 55 years old I think.
