Any ideas for cheap/DIY outdoor cat furniture?

We recently got a 6m x 3m metal run which we intended to use for our hens when we go away.

However, it occurred to us that it would make a great cat run when not being used by the hens (which is most of the time).

It really needs some cat trees/ furniture though for them to climb and sit on.

I've had a look online and any cat furniture suitable for outdoors is pretty expensive and honestly my DIY skills aren't that great.

So any ideas for simple DIY furniture, or anything cheap that could be used as a cat tree?

    Any help appreciated!

Find a fallen tree, or ask around for limbs cut off trees, my lot love an old log to sharpen claws. You can make posts of different heights to climb on too.

A fallen small tree or bough/branch would be perfect. The hens could use it too!
You could put up a hammock - like the ones you get in pound shops, that are used to store stuffed toys in?
Im sure a few plastic boxes/crates on their side, with a blanket in would be a good place to snooze
Go to some charity shops, they always have childrens toys for half nothing - there might be some things you could use/adapt
You could buy some of those pvc/plastic 'tunnels'
hang a few ropes on their own or with a tyre hanging on - good for climbing
Plant a catnip clump or two! Im sure there are other plants cats would enjoy
Dont forget a covered area with litter trays
SOunds like a great fun project - let us see photos of the finished item

As others said, get big branches from trees. I have one here, wrapped up in sisal natural rope to make pretty much the same texture as a scratching post. And various lengths of rope hanging from it. If I'd have an outdoor cage i'd get the biggest piece of tree i can find and prepare that like it (but our cats can go out and the branch i made is only for when they go to the cattery).

Thanks for the suggestions. Got a few ideas to work on now, I'll put up pics when finished.
