I#ll hijack the thread since the OP no longer needs it.  I'm in Dublin 16 and since the water restrictions have come into place our water quality has been poor. When I fill a glass with water, the water is cloudy, after a while the residue settles.

What is this residue? and is the water safe to drink? Should the water be boiled first?

    Thanks

    Hi NinjaTruncs,

    Thanks for your query.

Discolouration or cloudiness can occur following works or pressure changes in the mains supply.

Drinking water can sometimes appear cloudy or white and this can be due to different reasons including water hardness in an area or tiny air bubbles caused by trapped air in pressurised mains pipes - you can check this by filling a glass with tap water.

If there are air bubbles in the water, they will rise and the cloudiness will start to disappear from the bottom of the glass upwards.

If the water clears from the top of the glass downwards, the cloudiness or white colour may be due to limescale which is found in areas of hard water.

Hard water and air bubbles do not affect the quality of drinking water and are not harmful to humans.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

    Kind Regards,
    Siobhan

    Hi Siobhan,

Thanks for the detail. The water was clearing from the bottom up, so looks like it's air bubbles.
