    Hi Guys

Just exploring buying a car in the UK (first timer)

I popped the details into the VRT calculator and got a quote all fine.

    Then read about chargeable extras,

is there a list of these?
    or how are they decided?
how close is the car inspected?
or is the quote from the VRT calculator the price I will pay?

    Thanks in advance

There is no official list of charges for extras available. But things that are not standard equipment such as sunroof, sat nav or leather seats, etc.

They only apply to "premium" branded cars such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc and only on models upto 2 years old. And the VRT calculator doesn't take extras into account because it cannot due to extras being specific to an individual car. They also don't physically inspect the cars looking for extras. They go off the car's VIN which tells them all they need to know.

    Thank you.

Am I safe to assume that since Automatic Transmission is picked/available on the VRT calculator that its not also included as an extra?

I think that would be a safe assumption.

The above is inaccurate. Section 8.2.3 of the VRT manual has all you need. Basically if the car you're importing is over 4 years old, no issue, not chargeable. If however, it's under 4 years old, then there is a sliding scale (%) charge. I've been through this before with one of my imports. Car was a day over 4 years old, so eventually I won the argument and the proposed additional charge for extras on top of the calculated VRT was dropped.

    Thanks
    Car is under 2 years...!
Most items are part of the cars sports package and this I have picked in the calculator...

Only have two additional options outside of the sports package...

Was concerned about the sports auto transmission bumping up the chargeable but again have picked automatic in calculator.

So hopefully not to much extra above quote.

Not anymore according to the above poster who apparently works for the NCTS or VRO.
