    Hi there,
I have a socket at home which has 7 wires in it, 4 black, 2 red and 1 earth (yellow and green). Two of the black wires are wrapped around each other and are inside with the earth.

    Whats going on here.

I added a new socket with an on/off switch and now its not working, rewired it the way it was.

    Any ideas?
    Cheers

I'd say the two black wires wrapped in the black are earth, not sleeved in yellow green colours. Red are live and the other two blacks are neutrals. Photo would help and hope this does too!

I'm guessing by the colours it's an older house. To be honest even if the socket did work I would still recommend getting an electrician to have a look at it. Just remember there are 2 ends to every cable and what you do at one end of a cable especially with a socket circuit will affect what happens at the other end.

Sorry, it won't let me post a photo as I'm a new user even though I'm registered since 2012.

    thanks for the replies.
