It's ridiculous if it was all only based on a first name and wouldn't even let her see the arrest warrant.

Some station sergeant really needs to have his (or her) ass kicked extremely hard if the details in that report are accurate.

No apology made yet. As she lives in Charlie Flanagan's past and future constituency (Laois will be merged with Offaly again for the next election), the Flanner should be on her doorstep with a bunch of roses before the sun goes down this evening.

There is info missing in the article. If she was properly processed at the station then her identity should have been confirmed there. The court issued warrant was in her full name or partial? It isn’t clear from the article, only that her first name was used. Plus was the warrant issued to her address too? As she says she’s not blaming the guards there must be a mess up somewhere else.

In rural areas, an address can be a bit vague, unless an eircode is used.

If ones is arrested (or has ones house searched), is there a right to inspect or see the relevant warrent, or is this "freeman" nonsense?

Story sounds a bit fishy to me, if she had a tv licence then why not produce it there and then. What are the chances that a tv licence inspector calls the day before you are “mistakingly” arrested for not turning up in court for having no tv licence? How did they arrive on her doorstep? Considering that tv licences are connected to your address and not the person.

THere was a whole court case for another person who didnt show up and lives the locality which is why a warrent was issued. Localitys can be all under one address nearlt

The issue is the break down from the begining were she told the guards they have the wrong person, she has a license and asked to see the warrent which they didnt provide her, really they should ask for ID at that point and being her to the station is she doesnt provide it, there and then is where the buck should have stopped but all these guards seemed interested in was executing their warrent. She thought she could clear the matter up in the station and in the station she asked for the warrent again but they refused and sent her to prison where it was discovered there when actually compedent guards did their job correctly.

She is going to be in line for a massive pay due to this and the bad publicity is even worse for gardai

The Gardaí who called to her door were executing a warrant. It is not their function, in that context, to retry the case in the sitting room.

The TV inspector's call had no bearing whatsoever on the prosecution or subsequent events.
