    ...was working perfectly well earlier. About 4 years old. Now dead. Changed fuse and kettle working fine in same socket. ..just dead. An assuming trip to did in the morning?

    probably a fuse within the appliance, usually located at the mains terminal and mainly of glass structure, if you get that far you will be able to see if it is blown
