Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer

I’ve a Samsung American style fridge freezer that’s acting up and would like to know if people think it’s worth getting it repaired or buy new. It’s 10 years old, cost about 1200, could get similar for less than 900 now.

It was acting funny last wek so I decided to defrost it. The water despencr had stop working a few weeks ago and I had a feeling it was frozen. So after I defrosted it the water pipe (in picture shown) has split and leaks if I take water from the fridge. I cut off the supply and thought this would be the end of my troubles. Plugged it back in but now it’s not getting cold in the fridge compartment. Freezer is working fine. Fridge still saying 12 degrees after a day and after being set to 5 deg.

So do you thing it’s worth calling someone out to repair both issues? Am I mad to pump more money into a ten yr old fridge?

Edit: also worth mentioning the fan was going constantly before I defrosted but is ok now

The fan needs to run to cool the fridge compartment is it not running at all now?

I took the inside cover (where the fan is) off to have a look. Turns out after a good blast of the hairdryer and having been left unplugged with door open for 18 hrs it hadn’t even started to defrost. Loads of ice. Got rid of all that plugged it back in and it looks like it’s cooling ok now. I’ll live without the water and ice.

I had this problem before. The heating element in the freezer wasn't working that defrosts the frost. The fan blows air from the freezer into the fridge and mine was getting blocked with ice so the air wasn't getting in. Had to get a new mother board.

Now just see can you buy a replacement part for the split pipe online and install it yourself.

There a replacement temperature sensor available for those with a longer loom to relocated it to the opposite side that cures the frost build up. Just google rsh1 temperature

Not sure if this is the long one:

Worth checking with supplier before changing. My neighbours one ended up with the hold in the evaporator the guy in the video describes, had it regassed about 5 years ago and its still fine.

Apologies for hijacking this thread. I have a similar fridge/freezer which came with my house.

Does the water filter simply unscrew like the oil filter in a car and does the fridge need to be unplugged to do it. (It's showing a red light at the moment so I assume it needs replacing - I don't have a manual for it).

    Thanks.

The filter is a separate item. The water supply goes in one end then out the other into the fridge. Simple to change. Cheapest I’ve found is on amazon. You can also press and hold the filter button to reset it.

Same problem has come back again. Think I’ll buy a new one.
