I have no energy. I'm not asking for medical advice but I'm always so tired. I have put on so much weight this winter. My diet isn't the best. I'm so tired and depressed after work that i pig out. My gym membership is going to waste because I sleep for about two hours in the evening. I need to do or take something but don't know what. Any help or advice?

This is one of those instances that you know exactly what you need to do, but that seems like a lot of effort / seems boring. Its part of the human condition to seek out the easy answer or "magic pill" if you will.

Eat whole foods. Vegetables, fruit, nuts, lean unprocessed meat from the butcher. Drink plenty of water. Take in no liquid calories.

Start exercising again, start slow, "i'll just go for a walk around the corner" and build it up slowly.

Go see a doctor. The quickest and safest thing to do.

Are you happy at work? Are you happy in your social life? Do you have one? I think talking to your gp would be a Good first step. Eating healthy is great and is sound advice but if theres something underlining these feelings then all the healthy food in the world wont fix it.
    Good luck

Could your job be the root cause? If so, start looking around for a new position!

I have a little bit of a junk food problem at times. I pigged out the last couple of days on sweet stuff like cake. I can hardly move this evening, it is as if I have no energy. I actually feel sick. Diet can be the sole reason for feeling like this, meds from doc would be last resort for me. In my defence I am stressed out by college work and find it very difficult to concentrate on being good with my diet when I have so much on my mind. I'm really looking forward to the end of the term when I can chill out and focus on being healthy.

Go to GP and while their ask for blood tests for thyroid and anaemia

    Definitely get your thyroid checked.

I have an underactive thyroid which first manifested as me being utterly exhausted. It felt like my body was grinding to a halt and like I was pinned down to the bed/couch with lethargy. I gained 2stone + which I've still been unable to shift. Go to your GP and at least rule this out.

    YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.
As said above good diet e.g., fish, veg, meat of course, relentlessly stick to water.
Do not over indulge in alcohol(that's a complete NO NO)and I believe doctors should ensure people with your symptoms are not drinking to excess before a consultation even happens!?
You should see/feel results within days literally.
    Good Luck.

Eat better, sleep better, and start having a proper routine and break the bad habits.

If could also be medical so see a doctor and as for tests as they will likely just put it down as an over stressed over worked student

Go to the doctor and get a full blood work done. You could be low on iron, B vitamins or have a thyroid problem. It could also be depression.

If all of these are ruled out then it really is down to your diet and lifestyle. At least you'll know and it will give you peace of mind.

I have a good diet and I excercise and I like my job and that still hasn't stopped my depression from rearing it's ugly head again. Please go and speak your gp. Diet and excercise is very important but if you have clinical depression no amount of healthy living will fix it. You may well need something to go with it or even help you get going in the first place. This notion that its wrong to be on antidepressants is dangerous. Feel free to PM me OP. Everyone needs a shoulder

If you put crap in the fuel tank, you get crap performance.

+1 that you should visit your GP and rule out other possibilities, but starting tomorrow you should journal what you eat, and examine how you can improve on it.

showing that food journal to your GP will help them advise you.

Thanks for the advice. I've done a better shop yesterday and I hope I stick to it during the week. My work definitely has something to do with it but changing jobs is difficult when you're not skilled in anything else.

Improving your diet is a good start!

Even if you're not skilled at anything else, you could always look for a similar role somewhere else. Although it depends on what you don't like about our job; if it's the work itself a move might not have a huge impact. But even a new location with new people could help make a difference.

You could always consider upskilling too. Maybe consider talking to a career guidance counsellor?

    100% Slimming World.

They meet once a week and its great seeing other people with the same problems as you.

I've done all the gyms and diets over the years and yes I lost weight but because the diets were so restrictive I'd eventually start eating crap again and putting the weight back on.

The energy will come back as the weight comes down. Exercise is key also. Even a 30 min walk in the evening will help.
