Hey just wondering what would people recommend as best type of oil to use for 2012 golf TDI? Oil is a little low so want to top up but not sure what to use?

Castrol 5w30 LONGLIFE III oil, VW 505/507 spec or Mercedes 229.51 spec oil

    Vw 507 00
That will usually be 5w30 but it is the 50700 spec that is the important bit as there are many 5w30 that are not correct.
You will get it in Mobil 1 esp and castrol edge and a few others.

The others have said what's needed but all this is covered in the owners manual.

I would first of all look at my last service receipt to see if they quoted the type of oil they used and try to topup with oil with the same specs. (e.g. VW 507 00). Failing that, I'd check the owner's manual.
